A Structured Learning Experience for Quilters of All Levels
Workshop Overview:
This 7-week quilting workshop is designed for participants interested in learning the art of quilting, whether you are a beginner or looking to refine your skills. Each session builds upon the previous week, introducing new techniques and allowing participants to complete a personal quilt project by the end of the workshop.
Schedule and Format
- Duration: 7 weeks (one session per week)
- Session Length: 3 hours per session
- Location: Community Centre, Dublin
- Maximum Participants: 12
- Materials Provided: Basic quilting supplies, fabric swatches
- Final size approximately 45”x60” Supply list 1m print one (for chain) 1.5m print two (for background) Quilt batting to cover an area 55”x70” Flannelette backing fabric 1.75m wide backing or 3.5m standard width. Good quality sewing thread in a colour to match backing fabric. Before first class, flannelette only must be washed in the harshest settings that the finished quilt will see.

Design & Planning Your Quilt
- Choosing patterns and colours – Planning quilt size
and layout – Sketching and preparing a project plan
Week 3
Fabric Cutting & Preparation
- Safe cutting techniques – Measuring and marking
fabric – Organizing pieces for assembly
Week 4
Patching & Piecing
- Sewing accurate seams – Pressing and assembling
quilt blocks – Troubleshooting common issues
Week 5
Quilt Assembly
- Arranging blocks – Sashing and borders – Joining quilt top, batting, and backing
Week 6
Quilting Techniques
- Hand quilting basics – Machine quilting demonstration
- Decorative stitching options
Week 7
Finishing Touches
- Binding and edge finishing
- Labelling your quilt
- Sharing and feedback session
What to Bring
Personal sewing machine (if available) machines available
Favourite fabrics or old clothing for upcycling
Basic sewing kit (needles, pins, scissors)
Learning Outcomes
1. Understand foundational quilting techniques and terminology.
2. Complete a small lap or baby quilt by the end of the workshop.
3. Gain confidence in using quilting tools and machines.
4. Connect with fellow quilting enthusiasts and share creative ideas.
